What is Self-talk?
Even though you are not aware you are already practicing self-talk. It is the inner voice in your mind, you may or may not have spent much time thinking about it or giving any attention to it. It is the act of talking to self either aloud or mentally. Your self-talk can impact your confidence and success.
It is a conversation with the universe. Our universe
means everything outside us. People around us, our situations they all form our
world. Self-talk is what goes on inside us. Our self-talk radiates vibrations
and influences our health relationships and work. Our outer world listens to
the talk and responds accordingly.
The messages you tell yourself can motivate or
encourage you or they will limit you. Self-talk can either be positive or
negative. Most of our self-talk is unconscious and negative; we are not even
aware of it. Everything you tell about yourself is a direction to your
subconscious mind and anytime you talk something negative about yourself, you
are directing your subconscious mind to make you the same person you just
described negatively. Our inner conversation is often based on what is
happening in the outer world. We can create worry, anxiety, hurt, and fear and
make the inner conversation more negative than the outer situation. When the
inner conversation becomes negative, then we start disease, conflict and the
existing situation gets tougher.
You can be mindful of your self-talk. Conscious
positive self-talk is a very powerful tool for increasing your self-confidence
and curbing negative emotions. By mastering positive self-talk you can be more
confident, productive, and motivated.
Techniques of Positive Self-talk
1. Silent Self-talk: Listen to your inner
dialogue; listen to everything you say when you talk to yourself. Make a mental
note of anything you think or say to yourself that sounds like the wrong kind
of self-talk and immediately change it and make it positive. When you hear
yourself say something like "I just cannot handle this" turn it around
and say "I am a capable person and I can handle problems very well".
Irrespective of the outer situation if your inner conversation is full of
faith, hope, and love than your pure vibrations will influence your outer world
and you create health, wealth, harmony and the situation begins to resolve.
When you begin to replace old self-talk with positive new self-talk; this is
one of the easiest and most natural techniques to use.
2. Self-talk when you talk to others: Anything
you say to someone else about yourself is also a part of your self-talk. Listen
to things you say when you talk to anyone at any time. Do your words always
paint the positive picture you want your mind to be receiving? If not change
the words. Learn to create a healthy internal program every time you speak.
Winners use a more positive kind of self-talk when they talk about themselves
to build an attitude that produces winning results. You can listen to them and
learn.
3. Positive Affirmations: By repeating
affirmations over and over again you build inroads into your subconscious mind.
Affirmations are positive statements you need to read or say with feeling. You
can create your affirmations. The mere reading of words is of no use unless you
put some emotions behind them. Your subconscious mind takes any order given in
complete faith and after repeated self-talk. Daily practice of repeating
affirmations is important.
By practicing these techniques, you can greatly improve
your self-talk. Positive self-talk can help improve your performance, let you stay
focused and motivated. With a change in energy, you will feel more empowered.
